THRUST Challenge

The Glass Aeronautics R-2 Javelin. A fighter with more ‘gun’ than ‘fighter’. Modelled with the idea of real-life space battles in mind, this fighter was built to take on much bigger targets.

This was my first hard-surface 3D modelling project outside of Minecraft, and allowed me to compare my then beginner skills to seasoned artists around the globe.

Ship Details

Designing around practicallity, I included features such as wheeled landing gear for towing, wing-mounted thrusters and bell-nozzle gimballing engines for additional torque, reaction control thrusters for attitude control, large and concave cockpit windows for larger viewing angles, the list goes on. Most of these were inspired by existing real and fictional spacecraft.

The signature weapon of this fighter lies in its two massive Electro-Dynamic Kinetic Accelerators (EDKA) cannons that fire dense shells into frigate armour. Once the fighter passes through the shielding, it uses the cannons at incredibly short ranges to tear through hull plating. Missiles and Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) turrets ensure the fighter can hold its own against enemy defenses.
